Nick and Tracey Sarris are from Terre Haute, Indiana. They’ve been coming to Camp of the Woods for nine years and have been doing the camp decorating for seven of those years. We asked Tracey about decorating for this year's theme, Light the Night, and this is what she had to say!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It happens every single year. I start to plan around January and just know I’ll be completely ready and prepared before we arrive in June. We are not. We have this big pile of stuff.
We have ideas in our heads. We have dreams of a camp transformed into something new and exciting. This year the challenges have been multiplied. My sweet husband, Nick, started a new business. My daughter, Alia, will be staying at COTW all summer. My job increased my work hours. So while I hoped to have star maps drawn and planets painted, what I do have is this pile of materials. The same kind of pile God provides each camp season. He will show up in the creative minds and talented hands that will take part in the decorating process. Our efforts to show love with paper and paint and lots of staples will be honored. This year strings of lights and night skies will reflect his glory. We will be blessed to hear the reactions of the children second-hand. It’s not about the kudos and affirmations. It’s not about the ooohs and aaahs. It’s about sharing the love of Jesus and the light that his good, good news.
Keep watching for the “afters” and see what God is going to do!
Much love, Tracey, The Decorating Lady
