Partner with camp to raise $200,000 for Lodge Renovations

As we come into 2025, we’d invite you to financially partner with COTW and make a donation as we raise funds for a major renovation of the lodge, our busiest building at camp!

  • In 1987 the original lodge was destroyed by fire on a cold night in February. It was a tragedy but also an opportunity to trust God and his plans for camp. This became an important story shared by our founder, Garland Cofield for years afterward.
  • It hardly seems possible looking back today, but through an incredibly generous and faithful group of churches and individuals, the ruins were cleared, funds were raised, and a brand new building (our current lodge) was completed in time for summer camp that year. The lodge is 36’x68’ with a fully furnished commercial kitchen (26’x44’) and wrap around porch.
  • Over the years the building has experienced significant shifting from the annual frost that heaves up the piers that support the structure. As a result, the floor is often unlevel, doors and windows stick in their frames, and the porch slants a bit.
  • To build a new building would be $500/sq ft plus significant costs for site work and utilities. A renovation is a much more cost effective solution than new construction.
  • In addition to the foundation work, we anticipate upgrading some of the kitchen equipment that is as old as the building, possible window upgrades, and a new floor for the main lodge. Much of the work could be accomplished without a disruption to the summer season, which is really important for continuing programs.
  • The total cost for renovating the lodge is estimated to be $200,000. This is a significantly larger fundraising project than camp has pursued before, so we are looking to raise this money over two years. Generous partners have already given toward this expense, but we still need to raise $132,254.

Giving Tuesday was December 3 and many generous partners donated to get us closer to our goal! Camp of the Woods is a great charity to invest in and your gift will help us keep campers, families, and staff fed, entertained, and encouraged for years to come! 2025 is camps 60th anniversary, so consider a donation in honour of this milestone!

Visit www.cotwcanada.com/donate to find out how you can send your gift and receive a tax receipt for both Canada and the US. We appreciate your generosity and partnership as we impact families and youth here in Northwestern Ontario!

Jon and Sara have been coming to Camp of the Woods for many years now. They started coming as teenagers and have spent lots of time at COTW over the years. We love getting to visit with them and watch their daughter experience camp! We asked them to share a little bit about their time at camp and the impact it has had on their lives. Here's what they had to say!
